The inspiration behind the series
Way back in 2020, I had a conversation with my mother, who was just a couple of years shy of 80 years of age.
We were talking about her youth and how she always wanted to be a flight attendant (or a stewardess, as they were called back then), but her father wouldn't allow her to become one because of the reputations these women had.
Then I saw these covers, and my mind began to spin.
What if I could write these vintage mystery novels using my mother as the main character?
Research and Historical Accuracy
I bought the covers and dove right in to give my mom these books. Because I wanted to be true to the era, a lot of research was necessary. I read magazine articles, books, and studied pictures. I wrote book one and then set the series aside because the research was so time-consuming.
Now my mother is 86 and we are in the long goodbye that is dementia. I've once again picked up the series, something I should've done years earlier.
I've rewritten book 1, and book 2 is complete. I'm in the middle of book 3. I plan to release book 1 in December.
I do have to say, submerging myself in that era has been so much fun. Writing everything from fashion to phone cords, how the stewardesses used megaphones instead of the systems we see today, and the dynamics between men and women of the time has been a blast.
I can't wait to release these 1960s cozy mysteries to you lovely readers. You can preorder Dearly Departed from me (discounted!) if you haven't already read it here. It will be available on retailers soon.
