When disgraced soap opera queen, Sam Jones, comes face to face with her former co-star, Bradley Bass, he threatens to destroy the nice, quiet life she’s built in Heywood.
As he spread lies about her Hollywood life and the folks of Heywood believe him, Sam’s life begins to crumble… until Bradley Bass is found dead.
No one had a reason to want the man gone, except for Sam. Will she be able to find the real killer before she’s accused of a crime she didn’t commit?

At first I was disappointed. It felt like you’d turned Sam into a total idiot. She had been through other personal issues s d always came out the other side because she’s smart but in the beginning of this book she was making some very sketchy decisions but I’m the end she triumphed.
Sam has gone to great lengths to restart her life in small town Heywood far from the lights and the toxicity that was her Hollywood career. When her old costar comes to town and starts making himself a nuisance and then gets dead Sam is back in the spotlights this time playing the role of prime suspect. Everyone advises her to lay low but she just can’t especially not when it becomes a frame up. So the race is on can Sam outwit her unknown foe and uncover the truth or will she wind up behind bars starring as the wrongly convicted?
Great story. It’s intense but in a good way. Sam’s fear and desperation mixed with determination feels completely real. It’s really kinda sad and pathetic what lead to this if you think about it. Sam being blamed for so many things that were out of her control and then leading to this murder situation. But it makes for good reading! Can’t wait for Sam’s next adventure!!.

Sam Jones has worked hard to leave the mess of her Hollywood days behind her and rebuild her peace in Heywood. The arrival of her disgruntled former co-star with an ax to grind threatens everything. Especially when he’s found dead after Sam makes an ill-timed statement. Even worse, it appears that someone is trying to frame her. Jordan, Trevor, and her lawyer all want her to stay out of the investigation, but Sam can’t just let it go. With the help of Annabelle and Gina, she looks for another suspect to give to the police. But when she panics and withholds information, could she not only lose her freedom but Jordan’s trust as well?
After helping solve crimes, Sam is the prime suspect this time around. While I admire her efforts to clear her name, I was disappointed in some of her choices, especially after everything she and Jordan have been through. I do empathize with her because you don’t know how you’ll react in the same situation. The mystery had good misdirects and red herrings. I suspected the actual villain early on, but was never sure until the end. I always love returning to Heywood and catching up with the characters there.

Loved everything about this book! Great story!
Another good addition to the Heywood Herbalist series by Carly Winter.
Sam’s former co-star arrives in town and threatens to ruin her. She’s overheard saying she wished he would drop dead. When he’s found dead and she has no alibi, things get complicated.
Sam is told not to investigate, but that’s just not in her nature.
