Flight attendant Patty Byrne and her best friend Donna are on a layover in New Orleans just in time for Mardi Gras. The girls are looking forward to parties, parades and fun. Patty’s boyfriend, FBI agent Bill Hart, is working on a case in the city. But she’s hoping to spend some quality time with him. Things look promising when he invites her and her friends to a masquerade party. A Lisa Marchand, the guest of honor at the party, asks Patty to give Bill a message, but is interrupted before she can finish. When the same Lisa falls from a balcony, her family decides it’s suicide. Patty and Bill know better.
The murder victim was an FBI informant who was trying to end her family’s life of crime. Bill needs Patty’s help to infiltrate the family and get information, and she’s more than willing to help. She and Bill are determined to get justice for Lisa and put her killer, and her criminal family behind bars.
This book is a great read. The mystery is interesting and entertaining. The romance between Patty and Bill is, as always, sweet and adorable. I loved this book. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

This cozy mystery series set in the 1960s is an entertaining series. That time era is close enough to today's time for me to remember what was taking place and know how little technology existed then, technology which has changed everyone's life today. Plus society values were changing rapidly although there was resistance by many to these changes. The author has blended all these facts in this series staring Patty, an airline stewardess and an independent woman, but stills holds on to her own personal values. Airline travel has changed drastically since that Golden Era!
This book is set in New Orleans during the annual festival of Mardi Gras. Patty and her co-worker best friend, Donna, are luckily enough to spend their layover there, partaking in the street parties plus a traditional Krewe masked ball. The queen of that Krewe dies at the ball and the mystery starts. Patty's boyfriend, an FBI agent, reluctantly asks her to help solve the murder by getting close to the family.
There are several suspects for the reader to consider. Plus the victim's family's past dangerous corruption activities are being investigated, putting Patty's involvement at a high risk. I enjoyed the flow of the story. I did figure out one of the twists of the mystery before it was revealed but not the other. I am looking forward to reading more of Patty's adventures and recommend this book. The whole series has been entertaining.

I get into the story, can't put the book down . Great writing!
The Patty Byrne series by the author, Carly Winter, has become one of my favorites. I look forward to the opportunity to read the newest release as soon as it is available. The characters bring the books to life. It is entertaining to experience the life of a stewardess in the 1960s. The clean setting and societal expectations of the time period are refreshing. As always happens, Patty is pulled into a murder investigation but this one is a more dangerous setting than she typically experiences. I love the interactions between Patty, Bill, Donna, and Tommy. There is danger, intrigue, romance, Mardi Gras excitement, and lots of twists and turns that will have you holding your breath while flipping the pages quickly to get to the final reveal. And it was a big surprise! Plus the ending sets things up so that you will be anxiously waiting for book 6 to be released. I can’t wait! I am ready to soar off into another adventure.

An extended layover allows stewardesses Patty Byrne and Donna Reynolds a chance to take in Mardi Gras in the fabulous New Orleans. Bill Hart, Patty's FBI boyfriend, is also in town, working on a case tracking a family that is rumoured to be tied to money laundering and prostitution, among various other offences. When Bill asks Patty to work undercover, she steps up even though she's putting her life in jeopardy.
While Patty and Donna do join in the excitement of viewing the Mardi Gras parade, the tone of this mystery is more sombre than in previous books. The subject matter is weighty, and its treatment (and rightly so) is not frivolous. And yet enough moments in the story lighten the mood, reminding readers that these ladies are young, adventurous and having the time of their lives.
This series is a glance into the past; cosy fans who enjoy nostalgia will love following Patty's footsteps. As will those of us who dreamed of a career in the sky.
